I have the honour to transmit copy of a letter received from the Hongkong branch of the Association regarding a recent debate in the Legislative Council of that Colony on the subject of the depreciation of local Subsidiary coinage.

In view of the last paragraph of the letter, and the reply of the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies to questions asked by Mr. Bryce in the House of Commons on the 2nd November, (copy of which are enclosed) I am desired to enquire whether you will be so good as to afford the Associa- tion any information regarding the action taken by the Viceroy of Canton concerning which our Hongkong Branch appear to have received no intimation?
